Large Purple Spiny Oyster Shell Necklace

The spiny oyster shell found in the waters off the coast of Baja California have been used in traditional Native American ceremonial jewelry for centuries, longer than the use of turquoise and silver. Spiny oyster is found in red, orange and purple, with purple considered to be the most rare and precious.
These large disks of purple oyster shell have been finely finished to show their color as they're stacked with a heishi bead of the same shell as a spacer between each. Additional heishi extend the necklace for comfort and fit around the neck. Finished with sterling silver curved cones and a hook clasp.
