Larimar and Pearl Pendant Necklace

One-Of-A-Kind

This stone is a rare blue variety of pectolite found only in the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean. Due to its popularity, it is rapidly becoming mined-out. Much of what remains is of very poor quality: spotted with dark smudges (rather like mold), stained with red, possibly from iron, and is not of the quality required for jewelry. The few pieces I've acquired are notable for their lack of such disfiguring discolorations.

The focal point of this necklace is the pendant, set in a heavy silver mounting, measuring 2 1/2 by 1 1/4 inches. It is suspended by a rope of 6~7mm white freshwater pearls, interspersed by larimar rondelles bracketed with tiny sterling rondelles and beads. Finished with a Bali silver hook and eye clasp and a silver chain.
