Succor Creek American Indian Pendant Necklace

Hand carved in jasper, this face speaks of a history no one wants to remember. Again, a mad scramble for matching stones; these are succor creek paired with red pipestone or catlinite - a fine-grained easily-worked stone of rich red color of the Coteau des Prairies, west of the Big Stone Lake in South Dakota. The pipestone quarries were traditionally neutral ground among warring tribes as people from multiple nations journeyed to the quarry to obtain the sacred pipestone. Red pipestone and succor creek make up the strand from which the pendant hangs. Finished with sterling silver cones and a hook clasp.
